Did you know that the well-known Ultra Trail runner Zach Miller used to work–and train–for up to 9 months at a time on a cruise-ship? Yep. If there’s someone with experience training indoors, it’s Zach!
We asked him to tell us about his workouts on the ship to help keep you feeling motivated. So, here’s what Zach had to share with us about his indoor training!
You can read the article here.
A while back, we shared trail running couple Ragna Debats and Pere Aurell’s project about traveling the world with their child, doing races and discovering new places.
This week, we share with you the second episode in which the couple heads to South America. The vid’s got amazing footage of the Aconcagua area and the south of Argentina, and shows as they race on the of the continent’s most iconic races: “4 Refugios”.
With all the news being basically about COVID-19, we thought we’d share this interesting article from GQ Magazine about one of the greatest marathon runners of all time: Eliud Kipchoge. In this article you’ll get a glimpse into Kipochoge’s day to day life–plus, you’ll also find some really cool photos of him that you wouldn’t expect.
You can read the article here.
Semi-rad (if you haven’t seen his Instagram we recommend you give him a follow) has a podcast. Before COVID-19 got really out of control, he sat down with Joe Grant and had a really nice interview, which he shares in this podcast. Joe talks about his adventures from the past decade, tells lots of stories, and finishes up by talking about the types of projects that most motivate him right now. Definitely an interview worth listening to; enjoy as Joe takes you into the world past sport itself and into the spirit behind it.

]]>How can I keep running indoors if I don’t have a treadmill?
We know that many of you are stuck indoors. And if our own feelings are any indication, we imagine you might be getting sick of HIIT routines right about now. So, that’s why this week, we created a guide of running-“ish” exercises you can do in your living room, to try to simulate the feeling of running/post-run that we all love and miss.
If you have any exercise ideas, please write us! And honestly, now more than ever, we ask you to please share this with other runners who are having a tough time right now.
You can check out our guide here.
Since you might have some extra time on your hands right now, we thought we’d share this video about Tom Evans’ 100 mile debut in last year’s Western States. Besides following how his race went (which, FYI, was really good) in the video you can see a lot of interaction between him and his crew, and how important a crew is for a runner to be successful at running really long distances.
Last week, we shared Kilian’s videos–and this week, we’re sharing what might be one of the most classic films in our sport: Unbreakable The Western States 100. This film is 10 years old now (wow!) but it’s one that you should definitely watch if you haven’t…or even re-watch if you haven’t in a while. The movie follows the race along with the life of the top four contenders for the 2010 podium. You’ll find some famous names in there, and some others that you may not have heard of before. With Unbreakable, we can really see the evolution our sport has gone through in the last decade.
This week, Hillary Allen’s podcast talks about exactly what’s probably on your mind right now: Coronavirus, and how the pandemic has affected all of us lovers of the outdoors and endurance activities. Hillary talks about her personal experience with the COVID-19 epidemic (she’s in France right now) and shares a lot of good tips that you could use during these tough times we’re all facing right now.

]]>By now, it’s clear that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected all our lives in ways most of us couldn’t have imagined just a few weeks ago.
Even though many of you can still get outside for a run, there are a number of countries and cities that have required everyone to stay indoors. So, for those of you who will be spending more time at home in the next few weeks….we’ve just launched a free “indoor” training plan. It’s specifically designed to maintain your trail fitness in these tough times, and includes trail running HIIT core + strength routines that we’ve designed just for you.
You can sign up for the plan here.
We don’t want to overwhelm you with info about COVID-19 as you might already be reading a lot–but this guide from iRunfar, written by Corrine Malcom, is a very nice piece that we definitely recommend reading. If you want specific facts about the virus, its risk, and what it means for runners, it’s a great read.
There are also some stories that are worth reading beside some other resource that you could find interesting.
The most famous mountain runner of all time (yep, we’re talking about Kilian) just made a lot of his movies from the series Summit of My Life free to watch. Great content for staying motivated and fired up for when it’s time to get back outside for those long days in the mountains that a lot of us are missing right now.
You can watch the content here.
Without any races happening in the near future, there is not much news related to the ultra trail scene. So, we leave you with this podcast from Billy Yang and a conversation with two other well-known names from our sport about the COVID-19 situation and how it is impacting athletes and events from all over the world.
